The Dry Zone of Sri Lanka encompasses the eastern and northern plains of the country as well as its southern coast. This area is naturally covered with a dry evergreen forest, the diversity of which depends on rainfall. The driest regions of the nation are the extreme southeast, northwestern, and Jaffna peninsula.
