Seethawka Botnical Garden

Last updated on 17 Apr 2023Show location

The newest of the five botanical gardens is the Wet Zone Seethawaka (Sitawaka) Botanical Garden in Avissawella, Sri Lanka. The garden, which now covers 106 acres of land, first welcomed visitors in late October 2014.

The Sri Lankan Garden is currently under the management of the Department of National Botanic Gardens. In the Sinharaja Rain Forest region, it is primarily employed for research and protection of endangered and vulnerable endemic plant species. Additionally, it aims to increase bamboo production, wet lowland plant ex situ conservation, and export floriculture.

The Seethawaka botanical garden, unlike most others in the nation, is made up of wet lowland plants that are seriously endangered rather than flowers. However, the lower portion of the park is much like other botanical gardens in Sri Lanka, with finely planted flower beds and immaculately maintained grass. The Seethawaka botanical park is also notable for its lovely stream, which nourishes the numerous wet zone flora. There is also a boat trip available to visitors. There is a high platform farther up where you may get a spectacular view over the garden below and the mountainous area. To make it easy to navigate the garden, the paths are made of stone.
